The Director General is a State Officer appointed in accordance with Section 17 of the KCGS Act No. 11 of 2018 and commands the Kenya Coast Guard Service. The responsibilities of the Director General are specified in Section 15 of the Act.
As the head of the Kenya Coast Guard Service, the Director General provides strategic leadership and operational command over all KCGS activities.

The Deputy Director General serves as the second-in-command of the Kenya Coast Guard Service.
Assists the Director General in the overall management and administration of the Service.
The Chief of Staff is responsible for coordinating all staff functions at the KCGS Headquarters.
Ensures efficient communication and implementation of policies across all directorates.
There are three directorates and a Training School:
Responsible for maritime surveillance, search and rescue operations, and coordination of naval activities.
Handles law enforcement, counter-piracy operations, and emergency response to maritime incidents.
Manages logistics, procurement, human resources, and administrative support for the entire service.
Provides specialized training for coast guard personnel in maritime operations, safety, and enforcement.
